Marathon Success!

Fri 25 October 2019

We'd like to give a big shout out to Michael Watson, Client Accounts Manager, for completing his first ever Marathon in four hours and eighteen minutes.

Michael took up running two years ago with Quakers Running Club in Darlington and hasn’t looked back. He took upon the challenge to see if he could run a marathon within two years of adopting the sport; four months of work, run, eat, sleep and repeat… and he’s done it!

Michael ran the Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon in aid of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation; the only UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease. Since 1990, when the charity was set up by Professor Ray Donnelly, the charity has funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives. They support everyone affected by lung cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care. They raise awareness, prevent future generations from getting it and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer and they do all this so those diagnosed can live well with lung cancer for as long as possible.

Michael ran past York Minster then out into the countryside through the hamlets and villages, admiring the beautiful scenery whilst the crowds cheered him on along the route.

Again, we’d like to take the time to say well done to Michael; if you’d like to donate to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, please click here.
