Over the past year, Helen Marks has been working with Union Property Services Ltd on plans to open a Lidl and Travelodge on the old Bunker site in Hexham, Northumberland. This week, we are thrilled to announce that members of Northumberland County Councils strategic planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the officer recommendation to grant the application for the £20 million development.

Speaking about the development, Helen Marks, Planning Consultant said: “We are thrilled to have been granted consent to go ahead with the development scheme on the old Bunker site in Hexham. Not only will the development introduce 60 new permanent jobs, but it will bring an estimated £2.16 million of visitor spend into the area, just from those staying at the Travelodge.”
Construction is expected to commence in the New Year, which include significant upgrades to the roads surrounding the site, improving the highways infrastructure and the safety of pedestrians.
Helen continued: “The project has not come without it’s difficulties and so I am absolutely delighted to have assisted my client in achieving the support of the local authority. The site has been vacant for a considerable amount of and has a long history of planning refusals; the success of this development proves the importance of working closely with your local authority.”
